Compatibility of lenses & camera bodies

Sorry for this silly question but are some canon lenses more compatible with certain canon camera bodies? I have read or seen somewhere that some of the newer lenses are more suitable with the newer camera bodies for example the 15mm-85mm marries better with the 600d & the 60d?

if the reply to this is positive then what is the position of third party lenses with camera bodies?

Re: Compatibility of lenses & camera bodies

Hi Nat - no such thing as a silly question!

In general the only limitation I'm aware of with the canon EF series of lenses is that those with the name EF-S can only be used on the 1.6 crop sensor bodies (those with the APS-C sensor - so the 7D, 60D, 600D and all their predecessors). The EF nomenclature lenses (including all the L series) can be used on every CAnon digital camera. regarding 3rd party - no idea am afraid as tend to stick with Canon

    Cheers

There are some issues with old lenses from the 3rd party suppliers and some of the recent Canon cameras. They might need upgrading or possibly might not work. I'm sure that is covered in another thread here somewhere...
