I don't know about best but Power Director by Cyberlink in my experience is a very good movie editor.

Both the the Mac (I think) and PC come with basic video editing software built-in. If you don't mind paying a bit then Adobe Premiere Elements is good and the full product, Premiere, is/was the industry standard but will cost a fair bit. Sony Vegas now has a good reputation too.

I use pinnacle studio but like most software it has its quirks It might be an idea to use some of the free programs or trial versions till you know what suits you

I've used Vegas since v1 (before Sony bought it) when it was an upstart challenging the way video editing was done on a computer. At the time competing systems tried to emulate the two source deck one record deck approach.

Vegas let you create as many video or audio tracks as your computer memory allows, at the time that was quite revolutionary.

I'm a big fan of Adobe software, I use Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign daily. I love Adobe After Effects (that's like Photoshop for video). Adobe Premier, IMHO, is nowhere close to Vegas for editing video.

Download a trial copy of Vegas, learn the keyboard shortcuts (essential for speed).

Whatever you go for remember to match three things, camera footage, project settings, render settings.

x2 on Sony Vegas 7 or higher, incredible piece of software if you can afford it.
