Removing Part of Image? (Photoshop Elements 12)

Having recently started using RAW instead of simply shooting in JPEG I have a query about what is possible with Photoshop Elements.
I took the picture below at Duxford and whilst reasonably happy was frustrated by the bi-plane in the background. Is it possible in Photoshop Elements to remove this or am I setting my sights too high!

Hope you don't mind but I did copy the image and had a quick go in Elements 11 using the clone tool. I have deleted the originals from my desk top

So to answer your question it can be done. What I did was to duplicate the layer, did the cloning, then masked it to add back in what I cloned out.

John, thanks for the link I will look at that in more detail and give it a go.
Tom, thanks for showing me that it is more than possible. I appreciate you taking the time to do that.

I only had a bit of time last night and could not work out the clone tool, and the healing tool seemed quite a bit of work.
With your comments and advice I will revisit this when I have some time and use it as a learning experience.
        Thanks again.

That's quite a difficult cloning job so well done to both you and Tom

Tom, thanks for the help. For a first go I was fairly pleased with the results.
Stan, thanks for the kind comments.

I certainly feel a bit more confident now that I can manipulate my images, but obviously accept I have a lot to learn.
