    Adobe Lightroom version 2

    Hi
I have started to use Lightroom 2 for processing all my raw photos in. Just wandered if anyone else out there used it and how you find it. Any tips on lightroom 2 would also be handy.

I use it and love it, have done since version 1.0, currently on v.2.4.

    Tip.
Keyword your images from the start, even if it is just a location, or event etc. Once you have time you can then refine the keywords. The power in Lightroom are the keywords and collections.

Use Google for Lightroom tutorials, blogs and videos, loads of them about, usually free too.

I'm sure I'm not the only one on this forum to use the product, keep asking questions.

      Agree with Owin .
I wish I had a Pound for every time I've recommended it !!
I just checked & I currently have over 42,000 images in the library.

I download all my images into Lightroom & Keyword them (as a batch) with all the keywords relevant to the images. If you use keywords that you have previously created then this builds up each 'subject' ie Macro, Bird, People etc etc

The good thing is that if you 'import' images all ready on your hard disc (File - Import Photos from Disc) they remain where the are (unless you specify otherwise) & therefore do not take any more space.

The other great feature is the 'Develop' module, in particular the 'local' brush effects ie exposure, saturation, brightness, contrast, clarity & sharpness.
The Graduated Filter is pretty good also, once you get the hang of it.

Once the images are in the Library, whatever you do, it is non destructive.
When I have 'flagged' some of my favourites, I create Virtual copies (Photo - Create Virtual Copy) & work on them so that the original is always beside it for comparison.
Again this does not use any additional hard disc.

You will find yourself using this program more & more & Photoshop less & less.

Does this large number of images present any problems? I've heard that the optimum catalog size is around 10,000 images, after which things start to get clunky.

          No problem at all.

Bear in mind that the original images are actually stored on internal & external hard discs.

I agree with the others it is a great programme all my photos go into Lightroom. Only the odd 5% or so that need more adjustment ever see Photoshop. There is so much you can do with LR if you think outside the box. I saw a video of a way to do selective colour the other day and thought 'why didn't I think of that' far quicker than doing it the way I used to in PS.

Can I ask what mono conversion options you have in Lightroom? As I am currantly using CS2 for my conversions.

Dave, the easiest way is just to desaturate but there is an internal B&W conversion with full slider control too. Download the free 30 day trial from the Adobe website and try it out.
