Opening Multiple Images in Photoshop CC

Up until recently I have used CS 3 and have been able to add images to the workspace to edit even though I already have images open - not so with Photoshop CC, if I try to open a further image when one is already open (by dragging straight to the wokspace), it just opens it as a smart object as a layer on whatever image I am working at the time

If I use the file, open command then it opens normally as a separate image

any ideas please

What options do you get if you right click and drag it into the window - it may then give the option as "Open as Layer" or "open..." etc.

Alternatively its a case of search through the option / preference settings to see if there is a default set.

Must admit I just right click in LR and select Edit in Photoshop CC and it opens as a new file even if something is already open.

OK Stan - I have just tried this.

The trick is not to drag it over the top of the current image, but to drag it to the tabbed bar at the top where the file names are. If you drag it over an image it will add it to that image, if you drag it to the top tabbed bar of file names, it should open it as another image.
