Upgrading from LR5 to LR CC

    elpppp

I've posted on the adobe forum and getting nowhere

I want to upgrade from LR5 to LRCC as I'm paying for the photography plan and can download LRCC

    My worry / question is

I want to make sure all meta data and images from LR5 are imported into LRCC and what happens to the current version of LR? do I uninstall LR5 ?

I can't help I'm sure you've already searched the net to find out any problems, there's a link that says to backup your catalog before you purchase.

Here's the link if it helps http://photofocus.com/2015/04/26/bac...-lightroom-cc/

I'm just updating my PS CC first as I assumed that would need deleting first

I've already backed up my catalog as I always do that before installing anything - but cheers for pointing it out

I managed to contact adobe via chat and they have told me to install LR CC as I can have LR5 installed as well - then once installed will tell me how to import images and meta data into LR CC

No problem Ian hope you get it sorted.
Once you know how it will probably be a great help to others, as I'm sure you won't be the first with this worry doing the upgrade to CC.

I'm surprised theres nothing on the adobe - kinda an idiots guide to upgrading from to LR CC - I've found loads of videos on importing images from the HD which is pretty basic and new how to do this but its importing with meta data I want - plus being able to re-edit and change images - basically backing everything up and importing it - why can't there be just a single button ;o(

Re: Upgrading from LR5 to LR CC

I've done exactly what you're doing.

              LR5 locally installed.
              Moved to LRCC.

Quick comment - it just worked.

You don't 'import' anything. Either you have everything in the catalog, or you have sidecar XMP files. Either way it will just work.

You just point LR CC at the catalog.

Maybe I'm missing something about what you're trying to do - happy to expand if I have.

After a few weeks, I just uninstalled LR5 when I was happy LR CC was working fine. They're totally separate installs.

Edit: I guess for clarity, you have basically 3 things.

              1. The Lightroom install (i.e. the binaries)
              2. Photographs spread (potentially) all over the place and possibly sidecar XMP's
              3. One or more catalogs.

Lightroom cares only about the catalog. The catalog knows where the images and sidecar XMP's are. Either your edits are in the catalog, and they're potentially in the sidecar XMP's as well depending on what settings you use.

When you install Lightroom CC you get a new instance of Lightroom, and you just tell it which catalog you use. It then upgrades the catalog and it's done.

If you've copied the catalog, then you're fine, if you need to move back to LR5 you need to use the old catalog. Any updates you've made that are only in the catalog will be lost. Any updates you've made which were written to the sidecar XMP's will probably continue to be available in the old copy of Lightroom.

cheers looks good - I'm just downloading CC now so will try that - like you I'll run with CC for a while to make sure its all fine then remove LR5 as I don't see the point of running have 2 version

                thanks Tony

boy that was easy - almost too easy...

when starting up LRCC a pop came up saying found lightroom library from an older version and asking to import - I clicked import and it pulled the lot in within a minute - job done

I'm not used to software upgrades going to plan - although I have noticed PS hasn't imported some of my plug ins so will need to download those - annoying as LR did

I'd be surprised if it was any more difficult than you found. Glad it all worked out. Now stop sweating and man up

Upgrading from LR5 to LR CC

I upgraded to the photography package recently without any issues. However I've noticed that the "save for web" option in PS is now called "legacy" Adobe apparently will not be updating this element of the software. You now have to export the image (unless you choose to use the legacy option), somewhere.
I'm still playing with this as there are options as to how and where the image gets exported to!
One option I've just tried exported the image to the originating folder on my hard drive but...it created a sub folder within the original folder. I then tried to synch the original folder in LR and it wanted to synch 160+ images instead of just one.
Investigations are to be continued [emoji35]
