    Barkston Warbirds April 13-14th 2013

    Hi All,

I know plenty of you have seen my model aircraft pictures, well Barkston Warbirds is probably as good a place as any to come and photograph model aircraft. There's no admission, just sign in at the gate (someone is usually there, anyway) - arrival time 8.30-9.30 am. You can leave anytime, just remember to sign out (automatic exit gate). There are refreshments - the best bacon butties in Lincolnshire at a very reasonable price, too.

Barkston Warbirds is quite a big event, not as big as an LMA event, but less formal and easy to get close up to the models, both in the air and on the ground. Everyone is very friendly and will usually be only to happy to answer questions about their models. All in all it is a good day out.

Hope to see some of you there,
    Neil

    Hi Neil,
I have put this on my calendar for 2013. Got any recommendations for the type of lenses best suited to model plane flight shots. Something fast and not to heavy to pan about - 300mm f2.8 ?

      Hi James,

My favourite lens is the 300mm f2.8, chuck in a x1.4TC if you're using a FF camera, for a bit of extra reach. The 100-400mm is an excellent lens to use, too. Even a 70-200mm lens will do the job on something like a 7D with a 1.6 crop - you will be pretty close to the models.

      TTFN,
      Neil
