    Forum Challenge 36 ; 'Halloween'

Its that time of year again, where its traditional to complain that Christmas is being advertised earlier and earlier every year, :) but shoehorned in is the spooky bit that is Halloween, anything from the pumpkin with the face, to the subtle grungy graveyard scene is the go.... :)

        Hmmm,
Thank you so much to Chris Tom and Jackie for taking the time to enter,
I can only imagine that other people were busy with fireworks and pumpkins and the like....

        And so to Judge,
all three entries were excellent in my opinion,

        Good use of colour and a very striking image from Chris;
Good composition and great use of light flair from tom, black and white suited that one.

However, the standout winner in my humble opinion is Jackie with her pumpkin.

Great use of light, good composition and a subject that most fits the theme.

Thanks again to those that found the time to enter,

Its over to Jackie for the next one.......

Superb winning photo. I had thought of entering but didn't have much opportunity and once I'd seen that one I knew I couldn't do half as well.

It's not the quantity of entries, which will always be variable given time and the subject, but the quality.

Well done, Jackie. A lovely idea and well executed.

Sorry, Rich, that I did not enter. Inertia is a terrible thing. The only cure is to get off my backside and enter!

WOW, I didn't expect that, especially seeing as it's not my best shot!!!

Thanks guys. Now to get thinking (and reading old challenges) for an idea. Argh!

Congratulation on winning with your first forum post. Well done, nice image.

I'm not in to Halloween as it's an American concept.

Stephen, I agree that it has become Americanised and (to me) unattractive. When I was a kid it still had its religious connotation and, with it, all its ghoulies, ghosties and traditions. Now it seems to be totally commercialised or an opportunity to have a rigidly controlled fireworks display.

To me it is a night of begging, sorry. I also find it unattractive. Bonfire night, on the other hand, is a British thing.

Well done Jackie - especially on your first post!

I've entered the comp many times, but have got nowhere yet (cue violins), so especially well done for that too!

Didn't enter this comp as I've been ill, and work is too busy! Hope to be able to contribute to next ones... depending on subject matter chosen!

Whilst I'm no fan of the commercialisation of an American 'festival', I can see the excellent photo opportunities to be had... just not by me this time!

All the best, and I'm looking forward to the next subject to tax our minds and skill!

                            Mike.

Halloween isn't an American thing - it's the 'trick or treating' that's American.

I agree with the other comments, I'd say at worst it's begging with menace, and at best a bit of harmless fun.
