    Flash not working properly

    Hi guys.
Yesterday was the first wedding that me and my friend have ever done. it was an excellent day and we both really enjoyed it. hoping to get some more coming our way soon. one problem i did have was that my cheap jessops flash did not work properly with my 60D. can anyone say why? and also which flash is good to get?
    thanks

I'd suggest you go for the Canon 430EX or EX II. This is available second hand at very reasonable prices. I have this flash gun and serves my present needs very well.

thanks for the info. the problem with the flash was that it kept flashing every 2 seconds or so and i couldn't get it to stop unless i turned it off.

You'll need a flash compatible with Canon's E-TTL II standard for automatic exposure, though other (older) flash may operate in manual mode (so long as the flash is canon compatible in the first place!). If you're getting unending flashes then I suspect that the gun isn't compatible with Canon's EOS system.

As Nathaniel says, Canon's own 430 is a good gun, or go third-party with the Nissin DI622 (around £100) or Nissin Di866 (around £200 but offers a wealth of control including off-camera flash) or Yongnuo units. I use the Di866 I find it a brilliant high-power flash.

One thing to be aware of is that a "feature" of 60D's can cause the pop-up flash to cease operation following the removal of a flashgun from the hotshoe, due to the metal strip which depresses a micro-switch beneath the side of the shoe becoming bent. You may have to (gently) prise the strip back up again after use.

An alternative is a used flash - I prefer to get 580 series because of the extra functionality. There is nothing wrong with a 580EX - gives the same power as the 580EXII
