    Fauly Connections

Hi, I have an Eos 50d and I normally use a 24-105mm EF immage stabilised lens with it. On Saturday I was out taking photos when up came Error 01 faulty connections clean contacts etc. I turned camera off, unscrewed lens blew on connections nothing obvious amiss put it back together and it workrd took a couple of photos and on came Error 01 again. To cut a long story short it works fine with my telephoto lens (100-400) but is unreliable with the 24-105 I have very carefully looked at all the contacts, Presumably it is the contacts on the lens which are playing up and not the camera otherwise the Telephoto would not work. But I have checked all contacts on the camera and they all move freely none of them are stuck. Also Have had a very close look at contacts on lens and no sign of dirt or scratches all look good.

So what should i do. Is it wise to clean with fine paint brush dipped in Vodka!? or what Is this a common fault do I send it to manufacturers if so do you have an address.

Thanks for whatever advice you can give.

Alan I would never use a brush but maybe a microfibre cloth with a little alcohol over the lens contacts.
As for the manufacturers address then

Try a pencil rubber on the contacts on both lens and body making sure the bits don't fall inside the body

Do you have another camera you can try it on ?

I had similar problems last year with my 17-85 and ended up having to send itaway for repair at a cost of around £100

You can get fibreglass contact cleaning sticks which act like a brush and work well

Glass fibre brushes are very aggressive and shower debris which is bad for cameras, photographers etc. I would not use one on a camera.

The pencil rubber suggestion sounds like a good idea, will give it a try. Also trying the lens on another camera is sensible but that is not an option at the moment, but will be in a few weeks time.
