Using the Canon f2.8 usm macro lens, advice please.

After a little research concerning the following macro lenses, Canon 60mm, Sigma, 70mm and Tamron 90mm, I chose the Canon. Partly because of the limited 'interest free' credit availability but mainly because I like to keep lenses and camera brand matched if I can. I now await aforementioned lens like a child on Christmas Eve awaits the morning!

I have, for now, but one question. When using said lens does the 'macro mode' button on the camera dial need to be at the 'on' position or not? I'm sure that after I start 'messing about' with the mcro that I shall find more questions for those of you 'wot' know what you are doing.

Definitely not, most tend to use aperture priority!

Tripod, AV, f/16, Manual Focus and Live View is a good place to start with macro. Use the depth of field preview to assess how much of the image will be in reasonable focus, but most importantly experiment and enjoy!

Once more I am obliged to these forums for assistance. As usual, I have printed out all of the advice and will act upon it when said lens is delivered and will post a couple of my macro efforts. You can all have a giggle at them. You guys never fail. Much humble thankings to you all.
