    Your image of the year

As we approach the end of another year I thought it might be interesting for forum members to post their favourite image taken during the last 12 months, with a brief explanation as to why they like it.

Perhaps Robert might even consider printing some of those he likes in a future edition of the magazine.

To start things off this is my favourite image taken on Fort Myers Beach, Florida in May.

Black bellied plovers are quite common and I've photographed them many times, however this is the first time I've seen one tackle a cockle. In fact you normally only ever see empty shells on the beach.

    Brian, I think that's a great idea.

I think I'd choose this one. It was very much an end of the day 'I got lucky' situation.

I'm going with this one. I spent a lot of time chasing these birds this year so it would be rude to leave out this one.

Perhaps not one of my best from 2014 but its almost there.
This was one of the first shots taken with my EOS M.
At the time, my "carry everywhere" camera was the fantastic Lumix GX1.
When I received the M from my family at Christmas I had to make the decision on which camera to keep.
After this early morning shoot I decided to keep the M and haven't regretted it for one moment.
Have to admit that I was sad to see the GX1 go

I'm up for that great idea Brian

Really love the mood of this photo and whilst it looks like some parisian scene it was taken in Spain and noticed it whilst walking home one night after a meal - It was also one of the first times I'd pushed my new camera to such high ISO levels and was amazed at the quality at 10k

That's a difficult one as this year I have been lucky enough to get quite a few firsts, including full frame kingfishers and sand martins, close encounters with water voles and great crested grebes with lunch but my favourites would be the series of shots of a pair of great crested grebes courting

This has to be my favorite shot of this year and with only doing shots for the local papers means I'm not doing any professional games but hopefully this shot proves you can capture great images down at your local playing fields.

The lines are great, the colour is good and with the little shades near the grapes gives it a little 3D effect.

                  With kind regards,

Terrific idea young man, problem I have is too much to choose from! I obviously have my racing photo's but then I have a few gardens / macros, also lots of wildlife - I tried to pick a favorite but couldn't so instead I will post:

A marshal, why? Simply because if it wasn't for them working for free a lot of us (myself included) would probably have never got into photography at all.

Not given these a lot of thought until recently.

During the summer these balloons pass over my house on a regular basis.

This is a difficult choice, not because there are so many (which there isn't) but because of the time, effort and luck to get 'that' shot that I've always wanted to get.

I've posted this one recently on this and another forum and got really nice comments. I admit it could have been better had I had the camera set for the eventual chase instead of for single shots. I have learnt a lot from the experience.

We were doing the normal safari game drive when we came upon the cheetah sitting on a low rock and decided to wait a bit to see what panned out. We were looking at the surrounding area and saw a variety of other animals namely wildebeest and Thompson gazelles grazing. My driver/guide was saying that she looked hungry and so we waited - for just short of two hours. Other vehicles came and went but my driver was confident that the cheetah would need to eat - so we stayed. I was using my 1Dx with my 300f2.8+x2 extender which is a heavy combination for most of my safari shots and was just taking one or two background shots when she stood up and started to move obviously after the juvenile Thompson gazelle. We also started to move slowly to keep pace whilst I changed the drive to low speed and started shooting handheld for the whole chase sequence. I was very lucky unlike the little Thompson.
