    Macro Extension Tubes

    Hi all,

I'm interested to get into macro photography a bit more, but i haven't got the funds for a dedicated macro lens at the moment.
So i was wondering if anyone has used macro extension tubes? If so are they worth getting to tie me over before i get a macro lens, as ive seen some on amazon for £20 upwards.

    Many Thanks
    Ian

Yes they would work fairly well with your 50mm prime ,not to sure about the zooms though ,do make sure the ones you get are the a/f ones with the contacts .
The main downside is you lose your infinity focus so there only good for close up macro work

Ian, there was a brief related discussion on this last year:
This is the place to talk about anything photographic not covered by the categories below.

The general consensus seemed to be 'yes'. As for the cheapo set that I bought, they still suit my occasional use. The electrical connection can be flaky at times, but to my mind would be good enough to tide you over.

You could also consider a reversing ring or a close up filter which got good results for David here

            Hi Ian,

We covered various accessories for macro photography - including extension tubes - in the July-September 2014 issue of EOS magazine.

I have sent you an email with a PDF of the article attached.
