    Re: Stacking ND filters

Never tried it Ian but I’m sure someone will give some advice. I would have thought if you are using the glass/resin type filters like the Big Stopper it will work. I wouldn’t like to try it with two variable ND polarising type filters. I know some excellent photographers on Flickr of long exposure B/W shots talk about 16 stops. I'd be interested to know how you get on.

they are Hoya glass filters Tony so in theory offering a ND 18... I may try it in the garden and see the effect - My concern was colour cast, but as its going to be B&W hopefully that shouldn't be an issue

I've never tried it with the circular screw on filters but have with the square ones that fit a frame. I assume you'll be shooting in RAW so any colour cast can be easily corrected. Or you could set a custom white point, assuming you can expose correctly with the filters in place.

I only shoot Raw so can adjust in LR - although is that so important in B&W ?

Not sure if I'm honest but I find it's always better to get the WB correct before converting although I have no science to back that up!

                  Re: Stacking ND filters

just tested it with an ND18 and at 100ISO and F11 I'm still only hitting 2sec's - Looking like its going to be a dust shot which is around 7/8ish right now

                    Re: Stacking ND filters

Must be bright in Spain Ian this is something I'm interested in too. I asked Lee Filters and they said :

It can be done, but often a bit of extra sealing is needed to ensure there is no light leakage between the two filters.

On colour images, you will get the combined colour casts of th two filters.

It is just possible we may be releasing a 15 stop stopper in the near future - this would give better results than the combined filters if you are after that kind of density.

This is only a rumour though ;-)

Having too much light is not an issue today as its peeing down! so no photography today but working ;O(

As for light leak, yes if using square filters that would be something to watch out but I'm using Hoya filters so not so much a problem

Hopefully next week I'll get to try this ;O((

I would say theres defiantly a both for that either square or round
