    I suppose its not hard to make a Nikon look dated and old

          I am the opposite. I like to keep my camera and lenses to look as "new" as possible!! Keeps up it's re-sale price.

            Anyone thinking of painting a camera ought to check what it's made of. A lot of modern gear is plastic bodied, mostly polycarbonate but some may be ABS - neither are plastics which react well to organic solvents and can suffer from stress cracking if subjected to contact with such solvents...
