    Insewer'ants

Just interested in what you guys do for equipment cover?

We are covered through our house insurance inc 'mugging' cover - a deal we made years ago, and my Public Liability I arrange separately.

Thought I would have a look at photoGuard as a leaflet usually comes with the print version of eos magazine. . . . need to stop for a moment to try and get the uncontrollable laughter in check. . . . . . .

    Ready for this. . . . .

£984 per year!!!!! or £92.66 per month

REALLY? needless to say I will be sticking with my new for old home policy, 984 quid - they should be on the stage with gags like that.

    Re: Insewer'ants

I went for separate cover as I wasn't impressed with some of limitations

My premium is £450 a year and increased by another £70 when I added the 100-400 into the bag, so I'm expecting £550 next year, not cheap but a lot cheaper than having to replace my kit

I presume your premium is going to be higher as its for business use?

I CAN confirm that replacing a vast quantity of kit is EXPENSIVE...

Hi David - I check out each year for quotes from a few of the usual suspects - Morgan Richardson, Glover Howe, Aaduki, Towergate.
This is an expensive cost and there is often quite a big range of quotes. I also get new for old cover - at the rate Canon prices go, losing an old body is going to costs and arm and a leg to get the latest equivalent. I am hoping someone will nick my 1D3 so I can have a 1DX replacement!
Some of the home policies might have restrictions on them as to item value and total value out with you on a gig or in the car, so short of proper cover is effectively no cover at all.

        Start saving!

that was the problem I had they limited the cover to 2k whilst outdoors - so thats the lens covered and hence why I had to set independent cover up

You did not find the Photoguard leaflet in EOS magazine. We have our own EOS magazine Photo Insurance. See:

It is difficult to comment on the premium you quote without knowing how much cover it provides (that is, the value of your photo equipment).

For some non-professional photographers, a home cover policy is adequate. For others, the extra benefits of a specialist photo policy are worthwhile. Keep in mind that if you earn money from your photography, even from occasional work, you will not be covered by some home policies.

My apologies sir, for some reason I thought the photoguard insurance was via the magazine, I will look again - they are still taking the . . . .mick at nearly a grand though.
