400mm lens after using Focal software

First time using my 400mm after setting up using the FoCal software to set up any micro adjustments that it thought was needed for best performance (which showed camera settings should be set at -3 )i was also out shooting for a new newspaper publication for the first time so i took a bit of a risk going along with these settings.

As luck would have it the camera and lens work superbly pin sharp images right from the start and probably the best sharpness I've achieved with this lens so far even using the x2 extender (for the cricket)they looked as sharp as ever.

4 images from the weekend and all shot at ISO 800 straight from camera and just corrected in DPP, I've left the files big on flickr so you can see all the finer detail if you need to.

Surprisingly it also work on zoom lenses just as well, though I've only done my primes at the moment but when the weather improves a little I'll do the 24-105.

There is another way to test your lenses (for free)that might be of some assistance that James put on the forum so have a look at this link as well.

With the later cameras ( I think the 5Dmk3 was the first ) in the last AF menu the camera recognises which lens is fitted and if it is a zoom you have the ability to adjust the wide and tele ends, hope this is not telling you how to suck eggs

Thanks Alan definitely worth the tweak even though it wasn't much at -3 it has made a big difference.

In the first image looked at fullscreen his shirt stitching and cloth mesh can clearly be seen as can all the fine hairs on his arm so it can resolve fine detail that can't normally be seen plus i only use Medium raw file (10Mp)for the papers.

So in theory there should be more detail to be squeezed out of the lens if i shoot at 22Mp but i won't be greedy happy just using 10Mp.
