    Problems With 760D

    On the 19th September 2015 I bought myself a new EOS 760D which I am not sure weather I regret after owning a 350D & a 550D.

The problem I have is weather I use raw images or jpegs the image quality is rubbish at 200%, I can compare images taken with the 350D & the 550D at 200% and the images are far superior than the ones taken with the 760D.

I have tried different ways of taking the photos including using the Sports(Basic Zone) but always the same, very grainy.

These results I got using 2 canon lenses, the standard EFS 18-55mm f/3.5-56 and the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM.

I have contacted Canon customer services and they have instructed me to send it to one of the service centre's, having a word with one of them today they said they would have to send it to Germany as it is under warranty.

Fingers crossed its not away to long.

Busmonkey - are you seeing grain or noise? Could you have inadvertently set the ISO to the maximum permissible?

At 200% I would think it's likely to be pretty ropey anyway. The higher the resolution the less there should be a need to magnify it. How do two images compare side by side at normal viewing size? I think that would be a fairer comparison.

Thanks Peter, will keep my fingers crossed

John I thought the same thing, so I lowered the ISO down to 320, then 200 & then a 100, still the same thing, I even tried it on the sports basic mode so everything was done automatically. Compared with some photos I took on my 350d & 550d at 200% the 760d are rubbish.

Do you mean 200% as in zoomed in to view or do you mean 200 iso? if the former even a full frame at 200% would start to show the pixels, if the latter you shouldn't be seeing noise at 200 iso unless the exposure is way out

                Hi Gord

200% zoomed in, in canon's software. Compared to the images I took with my 350d & 550d also zoomed in 200% in same software the 760d ones are terrible, also same with sports basic mode where everything is done Automatically.

Unfortunately this can be the case with some newer cameras ,one of the reasons I still stick with my 10 MP 1Dmkiii ,the larger pixel count and smaller the sensor the more packed the pixels are on the new cameras the worse it seems to get ,fine in good light but as soon as we get poor light it really shows it up ,hence your better results from the older cameras .possibly why both canon and Nikon seem to prefer full frame

I have a 350D. I would be astonished of comparable high ISO ratings on that and a 760D showed that the 350D was the better camera. At ISO 1600 shots from a 350D are pretty unpleasant and hard to recover.

                      Hi Andy

At least it's been sent away so it should come back working properly.
If the problem is still there get some images on the forum so we can have a look and workout if there's any settings we may or may not be able to help you with.

                        Ok thank you Paul

I am still talking to support at the moment & they have asked for some images.

I will see where that leads to and let you now.

I have uploaded some photos onto my site, if anybody wants to take a look. They look ok at normal size but as I say at 200%

Images 1-4 are the EOS 760D

I haven't looked at these on a decent screen, but first thoughts would be to check the camera settings. Are you shooting raw or jpeg? Are the cameras set up differently in terms of sharpening, contrast and noise reduction etc. It may just be a picture style thing?
