    Help required, what is it?

Was taking some sunset shots in the South of France and noticed a strange formation, switched lens and zoomed in, really have no idea what it is or what caused it, any ideas anyone?

apologies if this should be posted somewhere else.

    Thanks

Looking at it on the landscape shot on Flickr I'd have said a contrail but, zoomed in like this, not so sure

    Nice images though

Didn't know what a contrail was, googled it and see a possibility, not convinced though......

Re: Help required, what is it?

Looking at the full size version on flickr it definitely appears to be a vapour trail of some kind. The lower end looks slightly like an explosion may have occurred - I wonder if it could have been one of those lumps of ice that occasionally fall from high flying planes and what you captured is it's last moments as it finally boiled away.

Re: Help required, what is it?

Doubtful, it's a vapour trail in my eyes, combustion produces water and that is emitted from the exhaust as steam, which condenses hence the trails.

Greatful for all the thoughts, I must admit that to me it looked like the lower end was some kind of explosion, also about half was up there seems to be dense area just as if changes direction slightly, I wondered if that was a lesser explosion of some type, will probably never now :-(
