    Equipment Insurance for Travel

I'm off to States next year and taking lot of gear with me. So thinking about some insurance that would be a bit more comprehensive than the cover by household insurance.

Wondering if anyone uses and would recommend an insurer though hopefully you've not had to make a claim.

Well the EOS website does specific cover for your gear - I rang to inquire about it but they wouldn't cover me as I live outside UK.

But it seemed to be a very comprehensive package and would be worth checking out I'd have thought.

Do you belong to a camera club. My club has a group policy that is very reasonable and is arranged through the PAGB (Photo Alliance of Great Britain - which most clubs are affiliated to), and I know people have claimed off it with no hassle.

It's through a company called Darwin Clayton. There's a sliding scale of cost, depending on value insured. It's very reasonable, and another good reason to join a camera club!

Hope that helps - and for the record, I have no affiliation to Darwin Clayton, and don't have their insurance... but I might take it out for next year.

I travel to the U.S. annually and find my travel insurance covers me well enough, but if it didn't you can bump up the items section.

Thanks for feedback. Will check the EOS site. Did a quick look on a popular travel insurance website and even extending the cover it wasn't sufficient.

No longer member of local camera club as it was very much equipment focused. In the past I've been a comp secretary too.

Be very careful of relying on travel insurance - they often have ridiculous maximum limits and exorbitant deductibles making them a waste of time for camera equipment - not always, just very often!

Apart from that staggering insight, I don't have much to offer. Sorry! I have googled camera insurance a number of times, but have always been more attracted to buying another lens or some such instead!!!

Your right Richard, even adding a premium for equipment the travel insurance I looked at limited any claim to £2000 so next to useless.

I've travelled a lot with my equipment and never bothered with specific insurance, still debating if I'll do it this time.

                Re: Equipment Insurance for Travel

If you have your equipment insured on your home policy on an "All Risks" outside the home, then most policies automatically provide cover on a world wide basis on the same terms as cover in the U.K. Check with your insurers just to make sure
