    Counterfeit Stuff

    Have read about counterfeit Nikon bodies in the past but didn't know about the nifty fifty.

      Did a bit more reading and seems this was a particular issue back in 2013.

        They had a camera body issue years back to where the serial number on the body didn't match the one in the software. Turned out that Canon Hong Kong were reserialing them to hide the fact from Canon HQ they were selling into other markets by selling grey products.

        Thanks for the lens heads up, just surprised they picked a cheap lens to copy.

          Interesting.

          For curiosity I checked my 50mm f1.8 MkII purchased second hand in 1998. It doesn't even have Canon's name on the rear, just the number 0701231C.
          Never mind, it's served me well in both film & digital, although rarely these days - I prefer my 35mm f2 IS - a superb lens.
