Presume 80D is like other bodies you can deselect some options.

Yes. it does. By selecting single a/f point and one of the area modes, you can switch between them with a single push.

On my 7D2 have BBF set to use all AF points, useful for BIF, and use the shutter release to use either single point or 9 point expansion.
