Census Question 17

Must be for Noink owners as mine is 'intentionally left blank'.

I know many are worried that failure to complete No.17 will result in a £1000 fine. Say everyone forget to fill it in ... that's 24,000,000 * £1000 or £24,000,000,000 ... ah the deficit problem is solved

Anyone got their own paranoid ideas of why it's notionally blank

I understand that if your address is in Wales, Q17 reads 'Do you speak Welsh?'

We have a census here in Ireland on 10th April. For the first time people are being asked if they can speak a foreign language and, if so, do they. If they do speak a foreign language they are asked if they can speak English. These questions arise from the influx of foreign nationals in the last ten years. They make sense to me. Of course, we've always had two languages here - Irish and English - and the census form has always been available in both languages.

Oh, that language is spoken all over the world (even in the UK!). It's taken as a given so we don't bother with that. Anyway, we found Guinness was great for drinking but led to somewhat unusual responses.
