7d mk ii af assist beam

Just wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I am having disabling the af assist beam on my 7d mk ii
I have it disabled in af3 setting but it is still firing when I use the camera in low light conditions

I have just had a check with my 7D11 and found that the following happens.

If the assist beam is disabled in the af3 it is disabled for all the settings B M Av Tv P (ie all those that have some manual input)

However in the A+ setting it remains active. (Being the automatic setting it ignores all manual changes.)

Yes I did read that in the manual but I am shooting in Manuel and just trying to get camera set up for some Attempts at Comet tonight otherwise I would have not even noticed that it was enabled.
I have tried all kinds of different ways to disable it but it just keeps flashing away no matter how I change various settings.
live view AV ,TV ,M .10 sec timer it just won’t cancel out.
I am sure there will be some cure but finding it not proving easy lol

Have you tried setting in AF3 the AF assist beam firing to IR AF assist beam only as a possible work round the problem?

Yes I have tried every setting in that menu page but still no joy I am afraid.
