    Bird Photographer of the Year

I've just seen the winner of this year's BPOFTY at https://www.birdpoty.com/2021-winners and wonder what other forum members think of the image. I've seen some stunning bird images, many of them on this forum and in my opinion this is not one of them!

Well what can one say, it is identifiable and perhaps the caption should be 'Trumped'. Decided there hope me me yet!

If you get past ‘blocked’ there are some seriously good shots. I’m not sure why they selects that one, just on that page alone I’d have gone for the owl shot called Night Hunter…

Must confess I like the picture, it's a well seen image, well taken and it certainly made me smile.

Whether it's really about the bird or more a comment on Trump's new style 'Iron Curtain' is another matter entirely. I suspect it won because of it's political overtones more than anything...

My thoughts exactly. However, it is supposed to be a bird photography competition.

This choice makes as much sense as the Belgian Grand Prix did. In other words turns a serious competition into a farce.

Quite agree. Does look like a political statement.
Some of the other images look quite good.

Agreed the bird is incidental....and not really the subject.
.............maybe the competition criteria was poorly defined.

The clue is in the title.

The photographers featured in the gallery have recorded a truly global range of photographic subjects, with stunning examples from across Europe, North America, South Africa, and Australasia.

Taken together, their contributions show just how many creative ways there are to make a living out of photographing birds.
