    R7 Thoughts so Far

I've now used the R7 a handful of times and thought I'd post my thoughts.

The camera is quite a bit smaller than my 7D2 and for me the option to add a grip of some sort would have been beneficial. Not a major issue though.

Been using my Sigma 150-600 C, with the EF/RF adapter. Seems to be working well.

So far I've only used the electronic shutter and not yet experienced a rolling shutter effect. This option is completely silent kgreat for nature photography) and the only indication that your taking images is a white frame that briefly shows in the viewfinder. Takes a bit of getting use to and it's very easy to rattle off loads of frames.

The AF is proving to be a major step up compared to the 7D2. The animal/eye detection is very impressive as it locks on and holds focus even if the subject drifts out of the centre of the frame (which I'm good at doing) . Seems to hold on to the subject well even when things pass on front or the subject goes in front of a busy background. Certainly getting a better hit rate for BIF. Of course it does struggle sometimes but not that often. Still trying different settings.

Image noise does look much better controlled and I'm less concerned about using high ISO. Not done any tests to see how far this can be pushed, that's a future project.

The high res sensor does allow a greater degree of cropping in processing.

Menu system is quite familiar and much like previous versions just with more options.

Still plenty to learn, think its quite good VFM too.

If you've any questions I'll do my best to answer.

    Looking good….sounds like it’s a winner.
On my R6 the silent shutter produced too many frames so I switched back…but then I’m only a casual wildlife shooter.
it will be interesting how you rate the ISO performance in the fullness of time. Thanks for the update

Re noise, I'm reluctant to draw any conclusions at the moment as it seems LR isn't processing R7 images too well. Will be assessing DXO PueRaw 2 in the near future as this is supposed to be the best option.
