    Canon R8

I have an R8, and I’m trying to set it up for wildlife photos. I’ve been practicing on Red Kites, large slower moving birds. I have the camera set to full focus area, animal priority, and eyes on auto. But the focusing points always seem to be on the edge of the wings/tail, as can be seen in the image. Is this normal or have I got it set wrong?

On the R6 and R7 I use the extended single point…seems to work most of the time…I’ve never tried full focus area.
I have a button set to toggle eye detection so can get focus in the bird and then quickly switch eye detection on

In the picture you've attached it may well be that the bird is too small in the frame for the camera to detect the eyes so it is reverting to something that it can focus on. To make sure that all is working ok you could try a bird or an animal that fills a lot more of the frame. Just a thought.
