Well, after 18 months using another brand camera I have reverted back to Canon with the R8. Battery is still charging but I can't wait to get out there with it and see how it performs. I 'downgraded' to a bridge camera and it was a mistake.

Thank you all for your welcome back. If anything the last 18 months has taught me to accept the limitations of the camera in your possession. I swapped to a top of the range bridge camera (Sony RX10 v4) and although this is excellent - I did have a play with a friend's camera first it just wasn't a Canon. I thought I would be able to achieve what would be impossible with anything but the top of the range cameras so have accepted that as I can't afford that type of kit, nor carry it around, I will enjoy others images and marvel that way. To be back with Canon is like coming home although I have now gone mirrorless and full frame. I am very happy and have only picked up the Sony a couple of times since (this was actually lighter than my old EOS 77D but is so much heavier than the R8) and am back doing the macro shots of flowers that I previously enjoyed and discovering the capabilities of this marvellous bit of kit. The Sony will be traded in for an extra lens as I have the RF35 prime at the moment. Can't make up my mind on a zoom or an 85 or 100 prime...Advice or opinion welcome. Lynne

Hi Lynne. Think it depends on the type of photography you intend to do, you say you enjoy photographing flowers. Obviously prime lens got that edge on the zooms - or so they say! If I was in your position I would go for the 100 macro.

Having read reviews this it the way I am thinking, or the 85 which has a macro version. This will be a trade in for the old Sony (not so old...) which is given a figure of £600. Zooms obviously are multi purpose so there is an advantage with that but .... I have so many thoughts going through my head. I am actually surprised with myself and how I am coping with just the 35 lens. You have to really think about how you position yourself rather than zooming in or out. Much more creative (sorry just been out for a birthday celebration for a neighbour and the prosecco was flowing...bad English) or creativity needed.
