Now done the update - decided to do it first on an old Macbook Pro I have (circa 2008) which has been updated so many times and travelled all over the world and generally abused. Reason being - if Mavericks can update this one it should be good on anything !!! Downloaded and installed like a dream. Currently working very well with no problems. Will give it a few days and then update my iMac and MBA.

Been looking at the newish maps app for Mac OS, and am completely underwhelmed by it, not a patch on Google maps, although Apples is more recent (google still has my previous motor from 2+ years ago)

Agreed - looks like Apple still have some way to go with regards to maps.
