    Gardening

Nothing to with photography at all... Except I take loads of photographs in the garden!!! I am looking for something that they call bender board in the US which is wood that you use to bend around curved borders to keep beds and paths separated. There are plastic equivalents, but I am really looking for wood to go with the straight edged borders. Any suggestions gratefully received!!!

The best way that I can think of bending a piece of wood is to steam it but that probably wouldn't work too well with the size of plank needed for a edging a bed. For this if you take a rot-proof timber like larch and cut close-spaced grooves about half way through and spaced, say, every half an inch you should have something that would bend. For a small radius bend space the slits closer together but this, as with depth of cut, some experimentation may be necessary. Soaking it after cutting but before bending may make it less likely to split.

    Cheers,
    John
