Anyone else tried the Merlin app?

Our son introduced us to the Merlin bird call identification app for the 'phone - it is amazing!

It's free and on the Google Play store for Android 'phones and presumably available for Mac devices as well.

I realise that all you birding experts will not need such a thing, but for those of us like me who are not as well educated in the avian world, it is jolly useful!

Agree John it’s first class if you struggle with bird calls. I got it and have used it especially with some of the warblers.

Ill have to look and see if I can find it for an iPhone.

Generally it's not bad though can give false idents sometimes. Got fooled by a starling in my garden, they have a wide range of calls, and came up with some weird species.

I'm good at bird calls so can make some general observations.

Normally I hear twice as many species, particularly if the bird is very distant or there are windy conditions.

As has been said useful for warblers as they can be tricky to get right.

Definitely recommended just watch for some unusual species in strange location.
