    Walter Macfarlane Memorial Monument

This was built in 1886 in Glasgow Necropolis, to commemorate Walter Macfarlane (1817-1885), the founder of Saracen Foundry, and his family. This foundry was responsible for much of the ornate ironwork around Scotland. The ironworks was so large, he built a whole town to accomodate the workers. More can be read about Walter Macfarlane here if you are interested

The picture was taken just after I got my camera, just over a year ago. I converted it to B&W in LR4

Nice bit of history there Garry and I like the tonality of this conversion.

Lovely architecture and detail there Garry, I would be tempted to crop the RHS to the actual monument to remove the plaque with the writing on just behind it which having seen now keeps dragging my eye away from the main subject.

Thanks Ian. I think I would rather try and clone out the text, otherwisw I think the pillar would be a bit close to the edge of the frame.

Thanks for the comment and suggestion,
