Nice shots and I prefer the First.
Interesting discussion and a subject I think of a lot with Aeroplane Pics, generally I think as long as I leave slightly more room at the front than at the back that suffices for the 'Flying into' rule, however that all changes when I take shots of Red Arrows when trailing Smoke, to me then the Smoke becomes an integral part of the 'Story' of the shot and I then often put the Plane just exiting the frame with the smoke trailing right across, this transmits also to the Wake in the water the Boat was leaving in your shots, so I think your First shot is absolutely fine to be positioned as it is.
