Good work Ian, agreed with Al, you're only playing at 10 seconds really!

I wanted longer but even with the tripod only extended once it wasn't stable enough - glad you liked the image

As someone who watchd his tripod tip over in the wind whilst going for a LE, you did the right thing, believe me!

Just the camera! Very lucky actually. I had a clear filter on it that smashed but the lens and body were fine. I was bending down to get the filter out of my bag and couldn't get to it quick enough. I must admit to using quite a few expletives at the time.

Oh, and it fell on a wall as well. I actually couldn't have got it more wrong if I had tried!

This reminds me of trying to do a LE on a frozen lake in Iceland. Set the camera up on the tripod, bent down to pull the filter holder and LE filter out of my bag, looked around and tripod and camera were now about 10 metres off - with the tripod gently accelerating away as it slid along the ice helped by a strong rear wind. Ran after it ( not easy with boots with ice crampons on) but before I could get to it the tripod met a bump in the ice surface and toppled over. Everything was OK other than a Nikon wide angle zoom which was then permanently locked at 15mm. Serves me right for using a Nikon lens on a Canon body !

As Tigger says really depends on the conditions.

For this image of Dunstandurgh Castle where the sea was really a gentle swell. I used 10 stop ND and exposure was 234 secs

Very, very lucky. In my defence, it was in the early days, wouldn't have done it now.

The view of Dunstanburgh is pretty much a classic.
