Grasmere (Stone Arthur, Great Rigg and More)

I had intended going down to Easedale and then up Sergeant Man and back via Gibson Knott (Plan A). But that was all in low cloud and would have been a foolhardy venture on my own. So I tagged on with a group doing the East of Grasmere which didn’t seem afflicted by cloud when we started. Route was a simple one Stone Arthur(1650’), Great Rigg(2513’), Heron Pike(2008’), Nab Scar(1493’) and then down to the Coffin Trail and back to Grasmere. About 9 miles with some steep ascents and descents, but because it was hot and very humid felt like a lot more. I consumed a record 3,5L of fluids (water and isotonic). Still a walk most hard and splendid. So not a particularly exciting set of images. Many taken at ISO400 (midday in June !!).

    1. The view towards Easedale Tarn at the start

    2. Is this Great Rigg I was asked, erm No still another 200' to go.

    (I was using my GPS)

    3. Looking down on Rydal Water

    4. Looking south from Nab Scar

Lakes are left to right; Windermere, Esthwaite Water and Coniston

    5. A money tree

This one on the Coffin Trail

    6. Helm Crag (with fells still in cloud in the afternoon)

This would have been the last ridge if I'd done Plan A.

As ever my 40D plus 17-40L. Felt I was lucky to salvage anything from a far from ideal day. But feel free to piont out errors.

I really like #1 ...not sure why... it just appeals.

All my mountain walking has been done here in Scotland - apart from Snowdon and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks..
I have never walked the Lake District but they certainly are appealling.
A nice set of images with great IQ given the conditions.

          Thanks for sharing

            Thanks for looking.

Jules - that was some clag and humidity and warmth on Sunday ... very eerie views at times ... wonderful.

Mike - I think you would enjoy The Lakes and Peak District (and North Wales' other peaks). Each being very different. I did climb the odd Munro as a nipper ... I'm leaving my return to Scotland for a few years.

... and yes money really does grow on trees up here

Nice set of images under difficult lighting conditions, if we didn't know it was June the images appear to have have been taken in Oct/Nov (although the fern gives it away) can't pick a favourite they all have character.

Just wondering, did you add to the money tree?

Erm No ... even though it was a fallen tree (as are most money trees I've come across) ... I don't add or take from them.
