Canon 50mm f1.8 prime lens. Very good quality but less than £80. Brilliant for shots in poor light

      Hello Martin

Never apologise for being a newbie. You are in good company ............. we all were newbies!

Brian isn't online at the moment, so I will respond for the "nifty fifty". It is Canon's least expensive lens at around £80 new and can be had for less. It is a 50mm f1.8, so it is a very fast lens and produces excellent quality shots. At f1.8, it will provide some very out of focus backgrounds.

It's not exactly manufactured from the finest materials in the world and I wouldn't want to drop one too often and expect it to keep working, but for £80, it wouldn't upset me too much if I had to replace it. It wouldn't be a lot of use to you the other side of the arena, but for the closer shots you would love it.

Canon 50mm f1.8 MKII, affectionately known as the "Nifty Fifty"
