You've saw a lovely picture/ moment, that is the most important of all the key skills/ abilities, so don't be harsh on yourself.
The techy stuff can be mastered quite easily. I personally think of it as the 'blue collar' side of photography.

And I'll tell you a secret now, I have never shot anything in RAW yet. I am not a very confident photographer yet with the techy stuff and I get worried I'll lose the pic or not be able to save it correctly in RAW (Yeah I'm a noob I know :) ) I tried one pic but couldn't open in Adobe and had to use canon software that came with camera to see it, and then could only save as tiff. All a bit confusing at the moment :)
