Re: Still Life in the Flemish style
Jonathan, very nice still lives and memento mori. Lots to admire about the objects, and nicely lit. You've got the style about right I'd say (not that I'm any great expert on Flemish style art).Canon EOS 7D

Re: Still Life in the Flemish style
Thanks Guys.
@Parsen66 classically the skull is there to indicate that the image is the representation of someone's life. It would then be surrounded with objects that alluded to that persons profession or achievements. A lit candle would signify that the subject was still alive at the time of painting whilst a dead candle, I think you can guess The skull would also serve to remind the viewer of their own mortality. My studio partner set up his image as a representation of Caravaggio, so my use of pastafarian symbology was a bit of a piss take. The Second image was actually a combined effort and we mashed it all together
@brianvickers you could view that as an allusion to the fact that death is an ever present part of our live, waiting just out of frame for us to take a miss-step.Last edited by Jonathan Teatime; 28-08-2015, 11:08.
