Jonathan, very nice still lives and memento mori. Lots to admire about the objects, and nicely lit. You've got the style about right I'd say (not that I'm any great expert on Flemish style art).

Both excellent shots and very well lit and exposed.

But, what does the skull add lol.

                      Thanks Guys.

@Parsen66 classically the skull is there to indicate that the image is the representation of someone's life. It would then be surrounded with objects that alluded to that persons profession or achievements. A lit candle would signify that the subject was still alive at the time of painting whilst a dead candle, I think you can guess The skull would also serve to remind the viewer of their own mortality. My studio partner set up his image as a representation of Caravaggio, so my use of pastafarian symbology was a bit of a piss take. The Second image was actually a combined effort and we mashed it all together

@brianvickers you could view that as an allusion to the fact that death is an ever present part of our live, waiting just out of frame for us to take a miss-step.

I really like these images & you have certainly captured that Flemish art look with the detail & lighting and has you have just pointed out the use of imagery in the images.

@ Nathaniel, as previously explained it would have indicated that the image was the representation of a person. However given that I have used pastafarian symbology and the skull wears an eye patch it is a nod to their fascination with pirates
