I presently own a 1d mk2 with a cheapo cable release which occasionally doesn`t operate the camera so my question is should I get a canon cable release or is there a radio version?

Re: remote shutter release
The common or garden Canon RS80-N3 is super reliable, no need for batteries, you can still use your flash and if you are that bothered about the cold, the lead is long enough to go in your coat pocket whilst you use it ............... just don't walk too far away from the tripod though.
Plenty on auction sites from £15 - £30, with others from £3 - £10 in what looks like Canon packaging.Colin
