        On the flip side:

        The 70-200 II hood is very annoying with a circular polariser... I suspect the earlier ones were worse.

        Also some of the hoods make the lenses look less inconspicuous...

            I look at if the sun is out and then where it is if there is a reason to prefer not to use one.

              If anyone out there is interested 7Dayshop are currently selling genuine Canon hoods (EW-60C) for the 18-55 IS kit lens for £9.99! Other hoods and filters are also available.
              EOS600D, 17-40mm L, 70-300mm IS, 50mm f1.8, 18-135mm STM, Powershot S95, 12 extension tube, Speedlight 380 EX.

                The rear end looked quite posh with the decent pair of shorts. I wish others dressed as well as you do!
