    To close this tale off...the Powershot was received back today from Canon and the repair done under warranty with no cost whatsoever even the return postage was covered by Canon. 6 months warranty given for the repair work.

    Strictly speaking Canon could have said.."Out of warranty...repairs will cost £102" as the problem occurred just as the warranty ended or sometime within a three week period after the warranty ended...... but they didn't

    Checked out the camera and it appears to give much better shots than it did when first bought.

    Nothing but praise for Canon Customer Service.
