    Hi Stan
There are some drawbacks as you say, and only time will tell if I've made the right choice. My boss thinks I'm mad(though i still have my 1D for now?)wait till were both shooting in floodlit conditions then we'll see who's mad!

No doubt about it though, the 5D3 is certainly giving some tremendous photos as the evidence on this site has shown.

IMO the best crop is the 70D at the moment. I am getting far better pictures from that than I am ever getting for either of my 7Ds - which are now beginning to look old style - but could be considered if you really think and extra 1fps is essential.
      Thanks Brian

Your right as in the best upgrade for me would probably be the 1D4/1Dx But i wasn't willing to pay 2 grand for a second hand 1D4 not a big jump in spec at that kind of price. As for the 1Dx way out of my reach, On the cropped sensor cameras maybe the 7D mkII would have tempted me but god knows when they will get around to releasing that model.

Paul's shots of Oscar are the best advert I've seen for a 5dmk3 yet. And at that ISO too. !

          Many Thanks
I won't have any issues pushing the ISO levels up to ISO6400 and even beyond if necessary, though you can see the noise in the background its non destructive to the overall image and these images are straight from the camera with no additional software noise reduction.

With good flash equipment much more than iso800 is rarely necessary for closer shots

Unless you're using HSS to freeze the action and retain some ambient lighting of course

I have 9 flash guns and 2 video lights - I use HSS most oh the time

I meant that however bright your flash is, if you're freezing action and retaining ambient light, then I'd expect ISO's of >800 to be used, In the original pictures (1/4000th at f/4.5 ISO6400, an EV of around 10) reducing ISO by 3 stops may have introduced some movement blur.

Using flash in bright sunlight is a good use of flash. Pictures at 1/4000 are fairly specialised - I haven't needed to take pictures at that speed, I am surprised you can get good focussing at that light level and speed. What are you taking pictures of at 1/4000 - presumable not a common camera use but an exception?

Focussing is the hardest part of low light photography - which is why I have the always on LED lights allowing me to take pictures in total darkness

I was referring to Paul's original images ("Info on shots : AV mode/ 1/4000sec/ f4.5/ lens 135mm f2/ ISO 6400/ AI servo") which is fairly unusual, if only due to the drastic flash power reduction from using HSS at that shutter speed, but it is testament to Canon cameras that such is possible and possible simply :-)

Out of interest, do you use the IR focus-assist lamps to aid low-light focussing?
