How have you got the AF set up? Are you using main point or continuous? What speed have you set the AF tracking too? What expansion mode are you on? These three variables have a HUGE impact on whether you can track an object successfully or not. It makes the 1D better at tracking than anything else but only if you set it up properly.

Re: EOS 1D MK III Focus issues

        Hi Mark
Sorry for long delay in reply.

My Settings are as following AF servo, Hi speed drive, tracking sensitivity set to middle position - (0) +, partial metering mode but do change according to the light, select one AF point for focusing.
Since having the Lens repaired its been much improved, Just need to build up my confidence again as in the back of my mind i worry it will let me down.So far so good at the moment though.

Any tips on set up very welcome?

Try changing your Tracking Sensitivity a little slower. I found an improvement by going slower to halfway between slow and the mid-point. I now find I use the slowest setting and get even more keepers, but that may not work for you.

It seems counter intuitive, surely the fastest setting must be better? I "Think" that the sensitivity is how fast it will latch on to something else, or be distracted and I want it to latch on and stay fixed on my subject. That's why I "Feel" the slow setting works for me.

Thanks Colin, you maybe right with the slower tracking settings, seems to be the best choice for most on here.

I would much prefer it locked onto the subject, than easily distracted with other moving targets in the frame.

            All the best
