I second that. I had a bit of a rant about this last week. You either need a huge range and a big bank balance or training from a Navy Seal in stalking prey.

$11,999 in the USA £7,861 and £11,999 in the UK, that a saving of £4138, add a ticked to visit B&H in New York and you still save 3.5K.

Which is great if you have it to play with in the first place.

              £7,861 + £670 duty + £2,400 VAT= £10,931, still a saving, but not nearly as attractive!

Customs can be very strict on such imports, and even if you discard the new packaging and rough-up your new pride and joy a bit, the onus is on you to prove you're not importing it. I really have no idea how likely you are to be stopped, but if you are it would be expensive!

A work colleague once got picked up trying to bring in a set of new Ping golf clubs. He had a choice, surrender the clubs or be escorted to the cash machine to withdraw enough to cover the duty, VAT, and penalty.

Hobson's choice really, but he chose the latter, and has not lived down the embarrassment to this day!
