      Re: Lightroom 5

Thanks. Mine didn't upgrade it automatically, but when I asked LR5 to open the LR4 catalogue it asked me if I wished to update it, which it did. It has also left the original LR4 catalogue intact.

Don't know if anyone has noticed that the program starts much quicker as well?

            Re: Lightroom 5

I've not had time to try out the new features yet but it's definitely faster to load. It also looks no different at first glance to LR4, which suits me since I've spent the last few months learning how to use it.

              Re: Lightroom 5

I'm not keen on upgrading as I'm only half way through my second (of three) LR4 books :-(

I wish Adobe would leave long enough between upgrades for me to learn the software ;-)

Not doing too much editing at the moment, busy installing some additional storage.

LR5 seems much speedier in operation, start up and viewing images particularly noticeable. If your familiar with LR4 then 5 isn't too much of a leap just some beneficial features that you should be able to pick up fairly quickly.

When you first open LR5, there is a splash screen open for a few seconds, that shows what mode you are in 32/64 bit

I really don't think that time will be wasted even if you upgrade. I've been using LR5 for a while now and unless you dig around to find the changes it doesn't look any different to LR4.

If you want to read about the differences in LR5 you can buy an ebook over at craft and vision for $5 I think.

Well apart from the much speedier performance I've been playing with the following features and think that they are well worth the upgrade

Clone/heal - no longer just a small spot option is a brush that you can drag
F key - allows you to see image full screen
Upright - auto correction of slanted horizons and perspective, there is manual control as well so you can tweak images.
