Re: Posted images lose their sharpness!

I meant to hosts such as Photobucket etc.

Nathaniel, have you tried using Imgur, or possibly even 500px if they allow image linking?

Thanks Andy. I will try them. The main thing is to get the image as it appears on my computer to the forum so that members could see the "true" detailed image and comment accordingly.

When Treff refers to "sharpness", i would like to refer to #6 on this thread- the photo by Trevor of the young man.

Not sure if this might help some. Ensure your images are in sRGB format when uploading. If you keep your images as RGB then you will find a huge colour degredation when uploading to the web. I have been caught out many a time.
In Photoshop > Edit > Assign Profile > working RGG: SRGB (I think that is it) Probably someone here will correct me.
Of course if you are working with ACR just on an image intended for this folio, you can export it from there directly as an sRGB to your Photoshop. Cheers Ingrid.

                There is an old saying:-
"a bad workman always blames his tools"
                but I have a solution .....
Instead of posting an image that is 1024x683 or 800x533, only post images that are 600x400 or 400x267

Re: Posted images lose their sharpness!

I have recently joined and my first post was late friday night. i uploaded a shot of my springer, shot on a 200mm 2.8L. looks magic on the pc but looked like it had vaseline on the thread...didnt want my first post cut myself off at the knees so deleted so straight away.. is it better to link from flickr? does that have better quality representation? the only trouble with that is all my flickr images are 900px and wider and all have watermarking on...i didnt want to annoy folks with that so wanted to upload straight from pc.. any advice gratefully received!

I think that Flickr does quite a good job, I copy the BB code with the image size of 1024 x * and add that to my posts.

ok. that bit sorted. Whats the deal on watermarking? respect to the site and others do you use them or not? I deleted my flickr and have started uploading due to the recent change in law..(another subject another time no doubt covered to death)

I'm just starting to add subtle watermarks to some images.

Until very recently hadn't suffered with the dreaded 503. Copy BB Code from Flickr (medium 640x427). Can't say I've had cause to think the posted quality is worse than the hosted given the size difference. Also when viewing on Flickr the background is black which I think helps.
