I'd also suspect Magpies. Are well known for this type of behaviour. Also take lots of small birds especially young. Once saw a magpie gobble up 2 or 3 recently fledged blue tit chicks.

Magpies are very adaptable, hence their success. Had a friend who kept chickens in a fully enclosed (with chicken wire) pen. All of a sudden eggs started to disappear and magpies were suspected though this didn't seem likely as the holes in the chicken wire were too small for them to get through.

What we eventually saw amazed us. Young magpies, so somewhat smaller, were squeezing through the wire and then passing eggs out to the adults before leaving with one for themselves!

Bury it? - that must be THE most ineffective way to kill a mole - like trying to drown a fish or kill a bird by dropping it from a height lol

Maggpies do the same wit our roof also

Ian ,thats exactly what I meant, and what an "expert mole catcher" (Mr Paddy NoFunnypart) did. He was asked to catch a mole or moles that were wrecking his nice lawn- the land owner need not be named. The next day the mole catcher called at the land owners house and wanted his money. The owner asked him whether he had caught the mole/moles and gave the blighters a horrible death. The mole catcher said "yes" and that he caught 5 of them ,and took the landowner to the place where he had dug a deep hole and buried the blighters.
