Well I went out with it on lunch there. Nothing great was out on show, not even a pigeon

However, tracking is far superior in every way. Tracked a runner running away from me and it didn't miss a beat. I ended up speaking to too many people this afternoon asking me what I was shooting. My reply "Nothing now since you stopped me" lol

I am going to love this relationship so much. Unbelievable first impression.

First kind of shot with it. Dora from my work was in the way so she got a pic lol

        400mm
        1/500th
        f/8
        ISO1250

That's with no noise reduction at all.

That's a really nice image in its own right. Just a little cropped off the top and you are there.

Welcome to 1 Series bodies ................ there is no turning back now!

Cheers guys and yes Colin as soon as I read that I knew there was too much space at the top. When I had a 600D I felt like the underdog, I then got the 7D and felt a part of the family, now I feel the weight of expectation lol

That is a very nice first image with your new setup and ISO1250 (things that dreams are made of for me anyway) Congratulations on the new camera.

No high expectations just enjoy using the camera and exploring what it helps enable you to do.

I thought that was the space for the caption?

I tried MFA outside as suggested but I found it really hard to distinguish any difference. When I got between -5 and +5 all the numbers looked equally in/out of focus. So I just took it out for a quick test run at MFA 0.

This is a test shot I took which I've not done any post processing to except to do 100% crop. I used spot AF and focused on the eye. Shutter speed was a whopping 8000th so that can't be an issue this time.

To me it just looks ok. I was within about 10 feet and the light was very good. It was hand held and I was resting on the car window ledge. In these conditions I would expected it to be razor sharp, but it's just ok and leaves me underwelmed. What does everyone else think?

I often shot pigeons too Lee cause I like their colours. This however was shot in quite bright light with the 70-200 I had.

                                f/2.8

                                1/2500th

I reckoned at this point I'd never take a more sharp shot. Don't know what happened after that lol
