From what I've read, that lens trumps both the 16-35 2.8 and the 17-40. I have it on my radar but it's purely a want rather than a need.

its what I've been reading as well Paul - I was surprised that SHMBO signed off on the lens as well as the camera

Lens looks to be mutts nuts and certainly gets thumbs up in reviews (just wondering how many more clichés I can get in).

Might just be something to have on my list for the future.

lol... cheers, its nice to know you've picked a decent product. I've done it in the past and you get the "had you purchased this one!!" ;o(

If the "new" 100-400 would come out I would be well on my way to having a decent bag of lenses

Been reading lots and tweaking settings to what I think will be good starting point.

Have free day Saturday so was planning to get out but looks like it will be lashing down!!

At moment seems like my relationship with the 5D3 is fated to bad weather or no time. Only light at end of tunnel just 4 weeks till end of work for good

Once you retire you wont have enough hours in the day as SWMBO will be lining up the jobs for you to do and if she works then she will expect you to make the tea and do the housework

I'm only into the basic tweaking right now - but give me a few more days and I should be ready to take it out of auto mode ... Whilst I don't have retirement around the corner ;o( I'm taking next month off and a long weekend in Barcelona planned so that should give me a chance to use it - enjoy your retirement, one day I may get there

same here - but since buying the 7D its forced me to get out somewhere at least once a month as I can work 247, that won't change with the 5D and sometimes for have the force yourself to make time for yourself

I shouldn't really complain I still average about 50-80 images of street type stuff a day.

really, VERY lucky !! - my office is in my house so some weeks I'm lucky if I get out of the gates, although buying the 100mm has given me a few opportunities around the garden
